3) what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
James Cameron
There are two ways of distributing films when they are created, there are two ways to show it to your audience.
A hollywood production takes a long time to make, it goes through 3 stages:
Preproduction (the preparation of the film) 3-6 months, could be more.
Production (Filming) 2-4 months more or less depending on the film.
Post production (editing and all fininshing/polishing of the film) 6-8 months.

In some cases writing a movie could be extremely longer. James Cameron is a very successful writer and he wrote the scripts of movies such as Avatar and Titanic. those are two of many of other successful movies in the movie industry. Avatar is the movie that has the most grossing profit of all time of a total of  $2,782,206,970 worldwide.

it took James Cameron 14 years to make avatar. he write the movie 14 years ago from 2009 but then stop due to technology problems. during that time he made titanic. in 2005 James Cameron thought that technology had caught up so he could now carry on making avatar. avatar was meant to release in may 22 2009 but than came out in 17/18 DEC 2009 because not all cinemas had 3D projector's.

If my movie was going to be distributed the way movies like Avatar were, if it was a mainstream movie it would then have to be distributed through one of this main distribution organisations, This is movies that come under the umbrellla of the Film Distributors Association (FDA) this includes companies such as Warner Brothes, Pathe, Fox, Sony Pictures, Icon Movies, etc.. They are very popular in the film industy and most of the most popular and most succesful movies are distributed from. Their job is "the highly competitive business of launching and sustaining films in the market place"

They arrange everything to do with the film. this includes
The publicity for the film
they also arrange to place the stars in chat shows prior to the opening of the film
they arrange the collection of income from all sources and distribute it as per contacts
they arrange all other distributions of the film eg the rental, DVD/Blue ray, video stream, free-to-air, airline, hotel, arrange the film premier, etc

But my movie is a typical student production so I am not going to distribute my film with the FDA, instead if i wanted to distribute it, it would be distributed using a web 2.0 site such as YouTube.
YouTube is a very popular website thatlets anyone upload videos for public and private viewing. you can create an account and subscribe to other users videos. YouTube videos are posted by people from all over the world, from all types of backgrounds. Therefore, there is a wide range of videos available on YouTube. Some examples include amateur films, homemade music videos, sports bloopers, and other funny events caught on video. While YouTube can serve a business platform, most people simply visit YouTube for fun, you can literally find anything on YouTube.

A normal YouTube video can have as many as 500,000,000- this is proven by young American singer, Justin Bieber's music video 'Baby'
another example of a YouTube hit is the clip 'Matt Dancing' this is a clip of a man doing a funny dance around the world In 2006, Matt took a 6 month trip through 39 countries on all 7 continents. In that time, he danced a great deal.
this video had many views and it shows that it can have a huge audience sometimes even more people watch videos on YouTube than they go to the cinemas to watch a movie.
